Morton Senior Citizen Center
A place where Senior Citizens are involved
with the community!
Morton
Senior Citizens Help the Homeless
The Morton seniors have decided to knit hats and scarves for the homeless
and needy members of our community. Come to the center on Mondays at 10:00
am to help out with this worthwhile cause. We have the yarn, so just bring
your knitting needles. Contact Helen Mullins for more information.
Advisory Board Meets
The Morton Senior Citizen Advisory Board meets the first Thursday of each
month at 10:00 am. If you are interested in volunteering or just learning
more about how your advisory board works, please feel welcome to attend
these monthly gatherings.
Blood Pressure Checks
Free blood pressure checks are available at the Morton Senior Citizen
every third Thursday at 11:30 a.m. Don't forget to take care of this important
measure for protecting your well-being.
Power Bingo on Fridays
Have you heard about the new game, power bingo, at the Morton Senior Center?
In this fun variation of the old game of bingo, you get to win coupons
then save and redeem for great prizes. Power bingo will take place every
month on the second Thursday and fourth Friday. On power bingo Friday,
a clam chowder menu will be served for lunch. Lunch starts at noon, and
power bingo starts right afterwards. Mark your calendar for our power
bingo days.
Bible
Study
A wonderful bunch of folks meets each Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in the Morton
Senior Center conference room for bible study. This group is uplifting
and knowledgeable, so if you are in need of some spiritual inspiration,
stop in for bible study.

The Chamber had an opportunity to chat with the Morton Senior Citizen
Advisory Board:
Chamber: In the communities of East Lewis County, are
you aware of the Meth scenario and if so, what are some of your views
on this subject?:
Morton Senior Citizen Advisory Committee: We feel that
this issue is one in need of an aggressive anti-movement because it hampers
the safety of our citizens in general.
Chamber: Are you willing to support the Chamber's effort
regarding the Meth scenario in East Lewis County?
Morton Senior Citizen Advisory Committee: We are in support
of the Chamber's efforts to combat the Meth problem in East Lewis County
and will consider talking to the Chamber in the near future as to what
our role can be.
Chamber: What is one of the Advisory's Committee's main
concern in this hour?
Morton Senior Citizen Advisory Committee: One of our
main concerns in this hour is the fact that we do not have a recognizable
amount of men involved on our committee and in the community in general.
Chamber: Please state to the Chamber, the Advisory's
Committee view on School levies within East Lewis County.
Morton Senior Citizen Advisory Committee: Our view is
that schools are very important to the stability and continued growth
of the community. The point is, many senior citizens are on a fixed income
and the thought of adding more taxes to their existing income would be
scary.
Chamber: Is it a possibility the Committee is open to
Forums that are set up to educate the mass about the importance of quality
schools in the community.
Morton Senior Citizen Advisory Committee: Yes, the Committee
is interested and also is eager to participate in it as well.
Chamber: Is the city of Morton moving in the direction
you approve?
Morton Senior Citizen Advisory Committee: We feel the Morton
City Council need more individuals possessing a wider range of perspectives
in regards to development and projection of a community.
Chamber: Can you please elaborate?
Morton Senior Citizen Advisory Committee: We would like
to see more aggressiveness in leadership with concrete goals and objectives.
Chamber: Are you open to diversity in East Lewis County?
Morton Senior Citizen Advisory Committee: Yes the Committee
is open to diversity within East Lewis County.
Chamber: Are the doors open to the Chamber speaking to
you again in the future?
Morton Senior Citizen Advisory Committee: Yes
