Resident Profile, August 2005
The Goble Family of Glenoma, WA
On a warm
summer day in beautiful Glenoma, a group of kids enjoy what nature has
prepared for the afternoon. For the Goble family of Glenoma -- parents
Kayleen and Andy, along with their eight adopted children -- happiness
could not have presented itself in a more serene and nurturing setting.
Andy and Kayleen, married over twenty years, have eight adopted children
-- Joshua (10), who loves reading books; Bryson (9) loves putting things
together; Cheyenne (7) and Kyla (6) are both interested in clothes; Rachel
(4) loves baby dolls; Benjamin (4) is a Veggie Tales fan; Sierra (4) loves
designing and writing; and Mr. Tray (2) he's open for all things at this
point.
The Gobles also have four adult children who are not adopted: Bobby, Tera,
Chad and Nicholas.
The Gobles reside on a beautiful six-and-a-half acre property in the countryside
of Glenoma.
Kayleen is home with the kids while husband Andy drives trucks for Walsh
Trucking six days a week. He also works long hours on their property restoring
an old building and removing material for extras to their new home. On
Sundays, the couple and their eight little angels attend the Mossyrock
Assembly of God Church, pastored by Rev. Bebe. The family has been attending
the congregation for two years. Kayleen states, "the church is very
family friendly and offers many children's programs."
When asked what the kids have in common with each other, Kayleen replied,
"they share the ability to reach out and care for each other."
While the kids and the family all have had adjustments, they have succeeded
in becoming a strong and loving family. Every morning the 3 oldest children
-- Joshua, Bryson, and Cheyenne -- lead in an organized tradition called
Devotional Morning where they read Bible passages aloud.
Andy and Kayleen teach their kids there is no such thing as limitations
in life, only limitations that you place upon yourself.
When asked what the challenges have been in caring for and having the
responsibility for 8 kids, Kayleen replied, "at first it's
instilling and teaching the kids manners, to be respectful to each other
and to their newly loving and devoted parents."
Kayleen teaches the kids about choices and insists on providing kids a
choice. She also shares that her kids have received excellent assistance
from the White Pass School District, regarding speech, ADHD and (RAD)
Reaction Attachment Disorder; White Pass Community Services, Cascade Mental
Health and Social Services (CPS), Evett Robin of Chehalis.
Kayleen feels she and Andy have been called to the task of adopting kids
and love every minute of it. Their longtime history in the community reaches
back to Harold Goble & Sons, Andy's parents (Morton), and Rose and
Benny Lundy.
There are three extra members in the family -- two dogs, Joey and Sammy,
and last but not least, Sassy, the cat.
Kayleen has some ideas of how the area can be improved for families. She'd
like to see more ongoing programs and recreational options for kids in
East Lewis County, such as public swimming pools and programs for kids
when school is not in session. She suggests "A Play Day" where
kids are able to participate in various stations to paint, color, bike
and or simply interact with other kids. While not in school, she also
thinks limiting TV time for kids is important.
When asked about a dream "Wish List" for her kids, Kayleen replied
with the following:
* 2 more bedrooms for the kids
* 1 extra bathroom. Presently kids must wait in line to use the bathroom
* Log cabin with 10 bedrooms
* Freezer or larger refrigerator to store enough food for ten in a household.
